Senior Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Minimum Qualifications

In order for County Personnel to determine a candidate's eligibility for a position the applicant must document in writing on the application how they meet the minimum qualifications related to the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(a) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year technical school or community college with an Associate's Degree or certificate in heavy equipment technology or mechanics AND three years of experience in heavy vehicle repair performing repair and maintenance; OR

(b) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year technical school or community college with an Associate's Degree or certificate in automotive technology or mechanics AND five years of experience in the automotive repair and maintenance field, which must have included experience working with diesel engines. OR

(c) Graduation from high school technical or vocational program in automotive technology or mechanics AND five years of experience in a heavy equipment repair shop performing repair and maintenance of heavy equipment under the supervision or direction of a journey-level automotive mechanic; OR

(d) Seven years experience in a heavy equipment shop performing repair and maintenance of heavy equipment under the supervision or direction of a journey-level automotive mechanic.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid New York State Drivers License Class B with Air Brake endorsements at the time of application and maintain such license for the duration of employment.  Employees operating Motor Equipment or Heavy Equipment on streets or roadways must possess a class A or B commercial drivers license and must be enrolled in the Tompkins County Drug and Alcohol Testing Consortium.

Must possess a NYS Department of Motor Vehicle Inspection Certification Group I and Group II and air brake training certificate at the time of application.

Must furnish own hand tools and tool box as required.
