Civil Service Examinations

Continuous Recruitment means that applications are accepted continuously and that examinations are held periodically. If you pre-file an application, we will notify you when the test is scheduled.

Promotional means that applications are accepted only from current Tompkins County Civil Service employees.

Open To Public means that applications are accepted from residents of Tompkins or one of the six contiguous counties: Seneca, Tioga, Cortland, Cayuga, Chemung, and Schuyler.

Training & Experience means that there is no written examination. Candidate scores are based on education and experience.

Applications must be completed and submitted by 4:30 p.m. on the final filing date of each posting.

Allow plenty of time to complete your first application. The information will be saved in the system and pulled forward into your subsequent applications.

The Tompkins County Public Library is seeking engaging and qualified candidates for the role of Department Head in the position of Librarian III. The Library has two positions open: youth services manager and adult services manager. Successful candidates enjoy working with diverse groups of people and can motivate teams collaboratively to serve the community through customer service, programming, and strong collection maintenance. Specific responsibilities include managing and communicating budgets, providing continuous coaching and feedback to team members, routine department meetings, leading library-wide projects and initiatives, and contributing as a part of the administrative Library Leadership Team. Proven organizational and communication skills are necessary for success; experience with scheduling and project management preferred.
