Probation Director (Group B)

Minimum Qualifications

In order for County Personnel to determine a candidate's eligibility for a position the applicant must document in writing on the application how they meet the minimum qualifications related to the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(a)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State approved University with a JD, or a Ph.D. degree in social work, education, business or public administration, law, criminology, sociology, psychology, or a related field AND three years of full-time paid (or the equivalent part-time and/or volunteer) experience in counseling or casework in a recognized agency adhering to acceptable standards in probation, parole, social services, psychiatric or medical social work or related work, three years of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative position in a probation agency; OR

(b)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State approved University with a Masters degree in social work, education, business or public administration, law, criminology, sociology, psychology, or a related field AND five years of full-time paid (or the equivalent part-time and/or volunteer) experience in counseling or casework in a recognized agency adhering to acceptable standards in probation, parole, social services, psychiatric or medical social work or related work, three years of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative position in a probation agency; OR

(c)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State approved College or University with a bachelors degree in social work, education, business or public administration, law, criminology, sociology, psychology, or a related field AND seven years of full-time paid (or the equivalent part-time and/or volunteer) experience in counseling or casework in a recognized agency adhering to acceptable standards in probation, parole, social services, psychiatric or medical social work or related work, three years of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative position in a probation agency;  OR

(d)  Any combination of training and experience equal to or greater than that specified in (a) through (d) above.

PROMOTION:  One (1) year of permanent service as a Deputy Director II, or two (2) years permanent service as a Probation Supervisor.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1.  The employee must possess a valid New York State Drivers License at the time of appointment and maintain such license for the duration of employment.

2.  This position is considered to be a public officer.  Pursuant to Article 3 of the NYS Public Officers law, the holder of this position must be a United States citizen and a resident of Tompkins County.
